Each of Mr. Garikai's tunings belongs to a different musical scale.
Mavembe and Nhemamusasa are used for solo performances when tuned to medium range. As for Mavembe, the minor tune, Nhemamusasa is tuned up a measure.
The low and high tunings are an octave apart with the medium tuning sandwhiched in the middle. Only the medium tuning is used for solo performances.
One might expect for the notes played by the low and high tunings to be the same. Mr. Garikai, however, plays the high and low mbiras differently, resembling improvisation akin to jazz.
By the way, this Yabango was dicovered first by Mr. Garikai. Many artists hear new tunes and receive new insight through dreams. It is said that this is the case with Mr. Garikai.
